In February 200 drivers met with Troy Buswell to discuss the Taxi industry.
We submitted many suggestions on how to improve the industry. He said that he would discuss our recommendations and deliver to us a copy of that report.
It is now available on the DoT site at http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/taxis/15136.asp
In brief our suggestions included; ‘too many Taxis’, ‘over access by PPRT’, ‘poor performance by underqualified ‘Student’ drivers’, ‘poor training’, ‘Swan Monopoly’, ‘lack of rank space’, ‘Driver Safety’ and ‘Driver Income’.
Many of these are issues that I constantly raise with anyone who will listen.
At the meeting one of the conveners mentioned that some people said we needed more cab licenses released. This was met with a lot of blank stares.
How Troy Buswell came to the conclusion that we need 300 more taxis is a mystery.
I am yet to get any information from DoT as to where all these fares that do not get picked up are. There must be some sort of pattern to analyse.
“Statistics, statistics and Damn lies”.
